To those affected by a heart defect:

Thankful

May 11, 2007 at 8:34 pm by Mom & Dad

Thank you for all the thoughtful comments.  Haven had another great day.  We are looking to re-start feeds tomorrow morning.  We thank God for four great days in a row.  Sorry there isn’t much to report, but the way we see it, the less we have to say probably the better things are going!

Still moving forward

May 10, 2007 at 6:47 pm by Mom & Dad

Thankfully, there is not much to report today.  Haven is holding steady and doing well with the ventilator and dialysis.  The current plan is to start feeding her again on Saturday once the medication for stomach bleeding has been weaned off.  She was awake a little more today than yesterday, and we got to see her big beautiful eyes.

Sleeping Beauty

May 9, 2007 at 6:55 pm by Mom & Dad

Haven had another good day.  It was calm and relaxing…mainly because she only opened her eyes a couple of times for a couple of seconds.  The little thing slept ALL day.  She probably needs her rest, and we’re glad that she can comfortably sleep without the assistance of medications.  However, Mom & Dad had to find an alternate source of entertainment.  So, we did a puzzle.  It was nice, but not nearly as fun as playing with Haven.  Hopefully, she won’t party all night tonight so we can play with her tomorrow.

A Better Day

May 8, 2007 at 7:12 pm by Mom & Dad

Haven had a much better day today.  We are currently in the process of coming completely off of one of her blood pressure medicines (which we had to go WAY up on during yesterday’s events).  We were also able to make some marked postive changes on the ventilator.  She continues to shed fluid (still slowly, but surely).  We had to stop her feedings yesterday with all of the commotion.  We are aiming to start those back up sometime on Thursday.  Hopefully, we won’t have lost any ground with that.  Thank you all for your prayers, love, & support.

Manic Monday

May 7, 2007 at 8:41 pm by Mom & Dad

So Haven continues to get rid of unneeded fluid and is looking smaller everyday.  We are very thankful for that.  This morning when we came in, she was bright-eyed and looking all around and was even playful.  It was fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Back to Size 2’s

May 6, 2007 at 7:42 pm by Mom & Dad

Haven seems to be adapting well to her new room.  She has been comfortable all day and took a few Sunday afternoon naps.  We are just continuing to put as little fluid in her and get as much fluid out of her as possible.  The plan is rather simple, but becomes complex with all of her health issues and needs.  We are thankful that we have a great staff to work with here to keep her on the right track.  She continues to shrink a little more each day and has already gone down two diaper sizes.  We pulled out the old size 2 diapers today and they fit!  Soon she will have her girlish figure back… and hopefully for good!

A New View

May 5, 2007 at 10:49 pm by Mom & Dad

Yesterday we noticed something peculiar about the ceiling tiles in Haven’s room here in the ICU.  Tiny water droplets began forming on the tiles.  As the day moved on into night, the droplets became bigger and bigger.  We were obviously talking with the nurse about it and she was going to get someone to come by and take a look at it.  Read the rest of this entry »

New Pictures

Haven had a good day today.  She’s doing well with the antibiotics fighting those infections, and thankfully there doesn’t yet appear to be an infection associated with her dialysis.  Her dialysis tube has not leaked either.  A few more days of that, and we may be able to begin a bit more aggressive treatment.  We continue to increase the feeds very slowly:  a little bit each day. A better day

May 2, 2007 at 6:38 pm by Mom & Dad

Haven had a good day today.  Her temperature was better, and she was feeling much more herself.  Her G-tube site is looking much better, too.  The surgeon came by and put an extra stitch around her dialysis catheter.  He also used some surgical glue that sort of works like window caulking.  It’s supposed to seal up any cracks to prevent leaks.  Hopefully, it will work so that dialysis will be more effective.  If we can stop the leakage around that site, we may be able to be a bit more aggressive at getting fluid off.  Thanks for checking up on us.  We’ll keep you posted!

Caught a bug?

May 1, 2007 at 7:47 pm by Mom & Dad

Haven is acting a little under the weather today.  That may seem like an understatement considering everything she is going through, but she just wasn’t her usual chipper and attentive self today.  She has been restless and lathargic for most of the day, but has stayed pretty comfortable with pain medication.  We have tests out to see if she has caught an infection, but nothing has come back positive yet.  She had a large blood clot come out of her old feeding tube site so we are investigating that to see what may be going on inside her stomach.
