The results from Haven’s kidney scan are just in…

She went downstairs this afternoon to Nuclear Radiology and had a radioactive material injected into her bloodstream.  The machine was then able to take pictures of her body as the material moved through her system.  On the monitor we could see that over time, the material started to collect in her kidneys and after about 40 minutes we could start to see some of it in her bladder.  We didn’t recall what the images looked like a month ago when she had a kidney scan, but the fact that some of the material had already made its way to her bladder via the kidneys seemed like a good thing. 

We just spoke with Haven’s renal doctor and she said that the results of the test were improved from four weeks ago!  Her kidneys are still not working very well, but the fact that they had improved somewhat increases the chance that they will continue to improve.  Because her kidneys have been so sick for so long, they will probably never regain full function, but we are very pleased to see some improvement.  We are still clinging to the fact that we don’t know what Haven’s body can do once she gets some good nutrition.  Hopefully as we go up on her feedings, we will continue to see small steps in the right direction as we saw today!
