We are glad to say that Haven did a wonderful job shedding fluid yesterday.  According to the numbers, she’ll need to shed about 3,000 mililiters more than what she gets put in, in order to come all the way back down to her normal size.  This will be no easy task, but yesterday she was able to shed an amazing 300 mililiters extra!  Three hundred down, 2,700 more to go.  Keep in mind that she needs to shed 2,700 plus enough to counter all the fluid that comes in every day.  Please understand that this is an incredible feat especially in her condition, and we don’t expect her body to be able to make that much urine every day.  (But it would be nice).  In fact, her body was working so hard at getting rid of fluid yesterday that she started to have some blood pressure issues last night.  We believe that has been corrected.  Hoepfully, we’ll be able to help her body compensate for all the energy and resources it is using to try and recover. 

Her liver is still not functioning normal, nor do they expect it to without some sort of intervention.  However, more information needs to be gathered in order to give an accurate diagnosis.  Once we have a diagnosis, a plan can be put in place to work on her liver problems, but we can’t gather the information we need until she is in a more stable state.  The theory is that she will be come more stable if we can get rid of all the extra fluid she has on board.  It’s interesting how everything is connected though not everything is directly related. 

We did get one of her many tests back.  Her thyroid test seems to indicate that her thyroid is not functioning at an optimal level (which we already knew), but it doesn’t appear to be anything more than just the fact that she is a sick baby.  So no additional thyroid problems, which is good.  We are still waiting for many other tests to come back and there are more tests that need to be done.  Haven’s metabolic biochemical geneticist said, “She’s definitely a puzzle.”  As we keep finding more pieces, we hope to get a better picture of who Haven really is.
