Big-Bellied Baby
So Haven’s belly just keeps getting in the way of her lungs. We had an episode much like we had the other day when her abdomen was so distended that it caused her some breathing distress, so today we had to readjust some of the ventilator settings to help her cope with that. But, just like the other day, once she got rid of some of that air that’s trapped in there, she was fine and we were then able to come back down on the ventilator settings to where she had been previously.Â
We’re thankful that we have the ventilator to aid in giving her that extra support as she needs it, but unfortunately, that won’t ever fix any problems. She is supposedly on the “optimal” dose of an anti-gas medication, but it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick for her. We have even stopped her special breathing treatments in case it is contributing to the extra air down there. If we see a dramatic difference in the next 24 hours, it would be safe to say that we may have solved the problem. However, we think it may be something else adding to the bloating.Â
You should know that between these little episodes (she’s only had two and a half since Thursday afternoon), Haven is very comfortable and very much her puffy-cheeked little self. We’ve even rearranged her room so that it is easier to get Haven out of bed to hold her. Mom & Dad both got to hold her for a total of four hours last night! It was great. We’ll see what tonight and tomorrow brings. In the meantime, we’re searching all over the place for some Baby Bean-O.

Hello Haven, Mom & Dad- I had the pleasure of meeting Aunt Mardell Cooper today at her place of work. After sharing our faith with each other (I shared about my husband going through a cancer battle right now), she shared with me about Haven’s battle of her own. God sure picked wonderful parents for little “Warrior Haven”. I have spent the day reading your entire blog and getting to know Haven. I look forward to following her progress and finding out that she is home to stay with Mommy & Daddy. May God bless you and reward you for your faithfulness to Him and His child Haven!!
