To those affected by a heart defect:

Better Night

March 30, 2007 at 8:37 am by Mom & Dad

Haven had a much better night last night.  It appears that the respiratory problems she was having were related to some issues she is having in her abdominal area.  The difficulty lies in the fact that we don’t really know what the problem is, but what appears to have happened is that something had caused her abdominal area to become very distended (expanded and hard).

All of the extra fluid or gas or swelling or whatever it was just pushed up into her diaphragm and chest cavity.  She just had the same problem that any of us would have if we eat too much, are bloated.  It’s actually a bit more accurate to describe the shortness of breath that expectant mothers have the further along they are in the pregnancy due to the baby taking up so much space inside and not allowing the lungs to work to their full potential.  The x-rays don’t show anything abnormal.  Her liver is swollen, but it has been for quite a long time due to receiving nutrition via IV, and they say that wouldn’t be causing this problem.

Mom & Dad think that she is somehow getting excessive amounts of air/gas in her abdomen and that’s causing the problem.  Our rationale:  things started leveling out and looking better last night almost directly after she had a messy diaper.  Now, the diaper really wasn’t all that messy, in fact, it was one of the smallest messy diapers she’s had, BUT it was a very noisy diaper.  Make sense?  After that diaper, her stomach (though still very distended) wasn’t quite as hard and firm as it had been.  We’re trying to convince the docs of our theory today.  They’re not 100% sold on the idea, but they don’t have any other explanation, so we’re making them check into it further.  (We hope we’re right).

    Way to go doc.

She obviously isn’t eating any beans or broccoli. Maybe its a combination of some of these wacky medicines she is on.

Or maybe its just aerophagia (swallowing air). I would be prone to swallowing air too if I had a tube down my throat.

Anyway, that’s what Dr. Google says. I’ll leave the final decision to the experts.

    Meanwhile, keep doing those situps.

Stick to your guns….really make them listen to you. Sometimes, they seem resisitant to some of the simplest explanations….On another note, thank you for encouraging me…each time I read an entry. May God continue to bless…
