Moving Along
Puffy though she may be, over the past 24 hours Haven has been able to put out more fluid than what is going in, so she’s working on getty back to normal size. The left side of her chest (which was draining an unbelievable amount) is now draining very little. That means that the pleurodesis procedure she had on Tuesday is working. However, since Tuesday, the drainage on the right side of her chest has increased quite a bit. We’re going to wait out the weekend and see what happens, but Haven’s surgeon has her on the schedule for Monday to take her back to the operating room to do the same pleurodesis procedure on her right lung. We are not thrilled with her going for yet another major operation, but we are all confident that it is the right thing to do to hopefully alleviate the chest drainage once and for all.
We did start giving Haven milk (VERY slowly) through her new G-tube this afternoon.  With the Nissen procedure that she had done, she should be able to keep her feedings down. Now the question becomes, since her digestive system has really never worked normally, how fast (or slow) will she be able to tolerate feedings into her stomach. Of course, this experiment will not yield very substantial results because we’ll have to stop her feedings on Sunday if she is to go for surgery on Monday. But, at any rate, any food that she can get between now and then will be great for her.Â
As always, we greatly appreciate your concern for Haven and following her story. She is such a sweet baby and is doing such a great job at overcoming some very big odds. Your prayers and encouragement are such blessings. Thank you, all!Â
